Evie Kirton wins English Under-16 girls' chess title
Evie Kirton has won the England Under 16 girls championship held at Nottingham High School. The competition was the Inaugural English Youth Championships promoted by the English Chess Federation.
Evie travelled to Nottingham with mum Claire and after some very close games gathered the required number of points to win the title. This culminates a remarkable few months for Evie Kirton having won the Basingstoke Chess Club Henshaw Shield for players rated 1600 and below with an entry of over 30 players. Also, another amazing achievement was to reach the final of the Basingstoke Individual Championship losing out to the club’s top player Steven Jones.
Basingstoke Chess Club are greatly looking forward to the forthcoming Basingstoke Chess Congress. The Congress last year was a success with 80 players participating in the various competitions.
The event offers everything for people interested in chess. There are 2 groups for the rated players Adult and Junior (under 18) with prizes.
Also, there are 2 other groups for unrated players Adult and Junior (under 18). This should appeal to the casual players who play for the enjoyment of the game. BCOT is the excellent venue and Café and a Book Stall will be available.
Entry is via Eventbrite.
